Mission Impact Day 1

Last Tuesday (August 12) we started our week of local missions. We went to the Baptist Children's Home to hang out with the foster care kids who are there. We were going to play water games with them. But lucky us, one of the 5 days it's rained all year was last Tuesday. I didn't care, since we were going to get wet anyways, but the leaders there wanted all of us to go inside the chapel. We did get to shoot off about 300 water balloons with the launcher first. It was awesome.
In the chapel we played a couple of games, and it seemed like everybody was having fun. But everything was just off the top of my head and not planned out, but I don't think anybody minded too much. After that we had some lunch with everybody. Sharlette and Tammy made some BBQ sandwiches. We were supposed to be there until 2 p.m., but the had a scheduling mix up and everybody had to leave to go and get some immunizations for school. So around 1 p.m. all of the kids left. We shot off the last 100 water balloons with the launcher. Now, these balloons can go about 250 yards. They get going pretty fast. We had a bet that whoever was the first one to catch one with their chest would get $5. One came right at Skyler and he just took it in the chest. It knocked him over and knocked the wind out of him. It was hilarious. He has a bruise but nothing big, and he did get $5 out of the whole episode.
That afternoon we were supposed to go and fill backpacks with school supplies for the Backpack Give-a-way that we were helping with on Saturday, but they didn't get any of their school supplies in yet, so that was a bust. We were supposed to be doing stuff until 5 or so, but it ended up that we were back at the church around 2:30. It was a weird day, but I think it was still pretty good.
